BITUMEN

Bitumen, also known as Asphalt is a black, and highly viscous liquid or semi-solid form of petroleum. It may be found in natural deposits or may be a refined product, and is classed as a bitumen.
The terms "asphalt" and "bitumen" are often used interchangeably to mean both natural and manufactured forms of the substance.
The primary use (70%) of asphalt is in road construction, where it is used as the glue or binder mixed with aggregate particles to create asphalt concrete. Its other main uses are for bituminous waterproofing products, including production of roofing felt and for sealing flat roofs.

CEPO is aligned with some of the largest bitumen producers in middle east and is involved in both manufacturing and trading. Our refineries and partners are capable of producing different grades of bitumen in compliance with national and international standards.

BITUMEN GRADE

Penetration-grade bitumen is mainly used in road surfacing. Bitumen with lower penetration grade is used in the regions with warm climate while higher penetration grade is used in colder weather.

The table below gives a basic detail of our various types of penetration grade bitumen.

NATURAL BITUMEN – GILSONITE

Gilsonite is a natural, resinous hydrocarbon. This natural asphalt or Natural bitumen is similar to hard petroleum asphalt and is often called a natural bitumen. Gilsonite is soluble in aromatic and aliphatic solvents, as well as petroleum asphalt. Due to its unique compatibility, Gilsonite is frequently used to harden softer petroleum products.

We are partnered with Gilsonite mines and supply our products to a wide range of industry, specialising in the following:
  • Drilling mud fluids
  • Asphalt, and road construction
  • Paint and ink
